May 2, 2008

Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne on Thursday said he would lodge a complaint against his Kolkata Knight Riders counterpart Sourav Ganguly for resorting to time-wasting tactics during their IPL match and refusing to accept the fielder’s word on a “clean catch”.

“I was disappointed at the start. While batting we waited for five minutes under the hot sun and they (Knight Riders) were not anywhere to be seen.”
“… when we came out to field, we had to wait for Sourav. So I was really disappointed, he was really running the time.”

The veteran leg-spinner said Ganguly’s antics stretched the match from the stipulated one hour 20 minutes-a-side.

India still has chances to host WC: FIH

March 24, 2008

India’s unprecedented failure to make it to the Olympics might have raised hue and cry, but the International Hockey Federation has assured the debacle would not affect their chances of hosting the 2010 World Cup.

Though the entire country sunk into depression after India, for the first time in 80 years, failed to book a berth in the Beijing Olympics, FIH-appointed Project Director of ‘Promoting Indian Hockey,’ Bob Davidzon said the defeat in Chile provided a chance to rebuild the game in the country.

Davidzon also assured that India’s failure to reach the Beijing Olympics would not make them ineligible to host the prestigious World Cup in two year’s time.

It’s a relief that after the Hockey team’s early exit in the Olympics,  India still has a chance to host the 2010 world cup. This piece of good news was brought to me by NDTV 24×7. You too can know all about India through NDTV 24×7. What’s more, it’s available in US through DirecTV.

Charlesworth to meet IHF chief Gill

March 17, 2008

India failed to qualify for the Olympics for the first time since the game was introduced in 1928, after going down to Great Britain in the Chile qualifiers. Australian legend Ric Charlesworth on Monday landed in New Delhi to meet the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) chief KPS Gill & the Sports Ministry.

Meanwhile, the venue of the meeting — Gill’s residence — has become a subject of controversy with a few affiliated units stating that the discussion should be held at a venue where members can express their views freely.

I am tracking the news on NDTV 24×7. The early exit of the national sport has dispirited me.
